Right now I'm rocking with some White Stripes Seven Nation Army. An hour ago I was listening to one of the best albums ever: U2's Joshua Tree. Two hours ago I was rocking some Counting Crows. This morning I had Hendricks going followed quickly by Michael Jackon's Thriller album. It has led me to this moment, this pinnacle of theological conundrums:

What is The Best Song Ever?

Please, no overly pious answers like "The Song of the Lamb that was slain" or "The New Song" or "The Song of Moses" unless you really really mean it and rock out with it on your iPod (original or clone)

And now I'm listening to an excellent mash up of Faith No More, Queen and ACDC. People have really gotta start laying down some tracks to ease my theological jihad!

Not best ever, but a powerful one- Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Have you heard Eva Cassidy's version or the live one by Tori Amos?

She wants it to be true. She wants to believe,... but she doesn't. Her voice gives it away, and its almost unbearable to hear.

Best song ever might be Jimi Hendrix’s Little Wing. Makes me cry every time.

Or maybe I’ll be home for Christmas. Serious business. Check out the original lyrics—very bittersweet song. James Taylor brings it.

I think there is a lot that makes a song the "best". Best lyrics? Best score? Best vocal? Most emotional/spiritual/patriotic? Best Jazz? Best Rock? Best CCM? (or is that last one an oxymoron?) All these different categories are so different that it would be hard to pick "the best".

I've seen some pretty good stuff on American Idol. When Katherine McFee sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow, that was pretty moving. And I loved it when David Cook did that number from Phantom. I guess you can tell I'm more into ballads than rock bands.

Musically and emotionally - Nessun Dorma, but I don't understand the words, other than their context within Tuandot.
Lyrically - There is a Fountain Filled with Blood & Amazing Grace (Hope that's not overly pious - it is honest)

I saw Eric Clapton in concert one time and he closed with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and it nearly brought me to tears. Not because it was so moving but rather I couldn't believe that I just spent $75 to see one of the greatest guitar players ever and this is what he was closing with.

I would have to vote for The Weight or Arcadian Driftwood by the Band or Springsteen's Thunder Road for greatest song ever.

Amazing Grace

( I listen to a lot of music - but that song has always been it for me) Not on my ipod though (whats an ipod? ;) . My car still just has a cassette player - I am lucky it's not an 8-track!

I do own all of the Boss's albums pre 1984 through. And I just bought Saturate Before Using on CD, along with the Verve Jazz Masters 53 (Stan Getz)

Best song ever? I don't know, but Grace by U2 comes close for me!

That is a HARD question, man :P

Off the top of my head, I'm going to say "The Impossible Dream" from "Man from La Mancha" - A Don Quixote story.

SweetSomber, I actually have Man of La Mancha on my Playlist for today. Did you get to watch the Boston fireworks this year?

Phil, I might have to pull an itunes buy.

Daniel, David Cook's performance of Hello blew me away. I imagine it blew Lionel Ritchie away too.

James, James Taylor "I'll be home for Christmas" is fantastic.

Stan--In the Air Tonight is amazing. That has just been added to my playlist for the day.
