By doing what needs to be done I meant that one can not allow themselves to take the negative things that happen personally or they will burn out very quickly.

That’s exactly how I took it. One quick test for T or F is the question, “To you, is the right thing to do the thing that generates the best outcome or the thing that causes the least pain to those affected?” A pure T says, “best outcome.” A pure F says “least pain.” So that’s what I was talking about.

I have also seen that those who "feel too much" often find themselves unable to make the residents do things they don't want to do but need to do

That’s exactly how it feels for me to be a manager.

Provided they don't all like ukulele solos.

Sister, if it makes you feel better, I’ve played both acoustic and an solid body electric blues guitar for about 30 years since before you were born. I’ve only been playing the uke for about six months.

My mom is in long-term care. Alzheimers. Glad to know there are folks like you in that field.

Gotta go. Y’all have a good one.

Oh man this thread will never be on topic again...

Holly,
I don't know exactly what you are asking there, can you expound? The cluttering is just a speech impediment. It doesn't effect my creative process I don't think.

James,
I think that causes the least pain also. There needs to be some detachment in such situations or it is more painful for everyone. Sometimes literally.

But yes I suppose I would say the better outcome. It depends on what that is of course.
Honestly I've never been a really "caring" kind of person, not in the way someone like you would think of it. I think it has been a good and providential job for me in the end though. The dementia patients make life interesting, they can outwit us at least half the time. They are definitely a part of my life for better or worse.

And that is totally NOT before I was born!! So ukuleles are a new innovation? That does make me feel better. Not as good as you telling me you'd sworn off them though.

I thought about closing it down a while back, but I was just glad that the tone of some of the talk had dropped by a few degrees that I thought I'd let it run for a while. :) D.

A wonderful, practical illustration of longsuffering grace. Thanks, D.
