Theologica

a bible, theology, politics, news, networking, and discussion site

Hi all,

My name is Katie and I've been reading Theologica forums and blogs for about 2 weeks. I finally bit the bullet and decided to join.

I have been a believer since around age eleven, but have really come to a closer walk with Christ in the last 3-4 years.  Since having my daughter 18 months ago, my life has drastically changed from working woman to stay at home mom, and a more devoted role as wife and keeper of the home.  It's a role I love, but find myself looking for hobbies and interests that are just "for me".  Studying the Word and defining what I actually do believe occupies much more of my free time lately...and I like it.

If I remember correctly, I fell into Theologica after some Google searches and it is opening up a whole new world of theology I knew existed, but never felt I could take part in.  I'm pretty certain I still can't take part in most discussions, and have way more questions than answers but you gotta start somewhere, right?!

Anyway, thanks for the great posts and good reading material.  It's a nice to know I can come and read posts for free when my Kindle fund is running low.  On that note, I have perused the resources on the right navigation of the site, but can anyone direct me to some really basic reading/books on studying theology?  Thanks!

Hi, Katie. Welcome.

Glad you're enjoying the theology, semi-theology, pseudo-theology, and quasi-theology that goes on here. I'm not sure but I think for an extra fee the posts will make more sense.

Welcome again and looking forward to your contributions to the place.

Welcome! So glad you introduced yourself. I hope you feel comfortable here and share as well as learn. It is a great place even though we are an odd bunch. I wish I could suggest theology books for you. I am just not sure where to start. There are good videos that Michael Patton did, but I can't find the link right now. Anybody out there have the link to the theology videos?

Found it!

Thanks EA!  I guess I'm in the same boat with the books...I don't know where to start.  Someone mentioned Systematic Theology (I have NO idea whether that is really an introduction at my level) but it's a little pricey for the Kindle and hardcopy I might add.  Maybe I'll check the used book store.

Thanks! Maybe if I pay God will grant me an extra dose of wisdom. :)

This looks like it will be very helpful. Wow...I'm kinda excited about these links. Thank you!

Listen to ALL the videos and then take your time and decide what books you want.

And you will be pleasantly surprised how inexpensive it is to get books on Amazon. I got a three volume set (used and in very good shape) for $21 plus $3.99 postage.

Katie: Some of the BEST theology books are FREE on Kindle. Pick some well known CHRISTIAN authors. Anything printed before 1923 is out of copyright, and free! God hasn't changed any Bible Doctrine in the last 80 years, but lots of writers have come up with NEW doctrines, in that time.

For starters, you could Check out Dwight Moody, Martin Luther, A.W. Tozer, John Owen, L.S. Chafer, Jonathan Edwards,  Chas. Spurgeon, John Calvin, and also numerous translations of the Bible.

Will do.  Thanks again!
