The cost for subscribing is the same for the cost of becoming a member. Are there any members out there who find it beneficial to be a member instead of a subscriber? If not, let me know.

Maybe the annual and regional meetings? So far the only benefit I've derived from membership is JETS. Oh and getting some stuff in the mail, like academic book catalogs. If its the same, I'd go for the membership.

If I did not get the Journal, I would not be a member. I have not felt any large urge to attend the Conferences, but perhaps if my circumstances were more conducive to attending, I might feel it more.

ETS (or any theological society) looks good on your CV if you're interested in an academic career. That's about it.

I thought about joining, though I have no real reason to.

Anecdote: Some years ago I happened by the DTS campus and lo and behold there was the ETS conference going on, so I decided to crash the party. I got to hear Sam Storms, who was delivering something in regard to continuationism, I believe. Someone was talking about Progressive Dispensationalism, citing the "already and not yet" a la Ladd and others. I got to talking to the guy sitting next to me, and I mentioned that in Vineyard or Third-wave circles this same phrase was linked to present day miracles. The guy said something about not thinking that was the way the New Testament used the word "power."

A knucklehead, I asked him what class he was in. And he answered that he was actually on the faculty. His name was Darrell. I'm sure Dr. Bock doesn't remember that moment, but I slunk out of there soon afterward.
