I'm not going to talk about my family and kids since by the grace of God I don't have those.

Some things you should know about me:

1) I'm honest

2) I'm unconventional

3) I'm contrary

Typically these add up to "mean", hence my title. And probably as a fourth, I don't make apologies for being myself. As a result, in most cases I accept others as they are, even if I don't like it (and accepting you doesn't mean I'll be nice to you). While I would like others to do the same, I'm not really torn up if they don't. But a person would be better off ignoring me than trying to reform me. If someone gets sanctimonious about it, I'll just be myself to 11 to annoy that person. One of my weaknesses.

I'm also really big on fair representation, and have been known to argue other people's positions in the past. I've also played devil's advocate just to disagree with people whose arguments aren't strong. I don't make "personal" arguments as they're a sign of a weak position. In my family, the purpose of discussion was always to rip apart ideas and arguments so that only the best ones survive. That's what I do and I welcome others do do the same to my arguments.

Other junk:

I'm in my third year of purgatory (aka battleaxe school), which is 100% mem's fault (okay maybe 90% mem and 10% James). I am actually allowed to draw blood now and have poked two unfortunate souls.

I am a Baptist but the church I go to is Reformed, holding to the 3 forms of Unity. The Heidelberg Catechism is one of the most beautiful confessional documents ever written in my opinion. However I like the Lutheran conception of a lot of things.

I am a very nonlinear thinker and a nerd-that is a person who loves learning and knowledge (with a corresponding sense of humour). Not to be confused with a geek who is a nerd interested in a very narrow field, or a dork who is a nerd or geek who is socially inept and often doesn't bathe (cf: Rey).

These are by no means exhaustive lists.

As many of you know I like to explain myself by way of heritage: I'm Scottish, Ulster Irish and English. As a Scot I'm always looking for things to be sour about. As Irish I want to start a fight about it, and as English, I Will Win, even when I lose.

For the record, MARV.

No we were going to do a graphic novel--joint effort of me, Rey and Holly. Thinking of calling the first edition "The Ten" except we're having a hard time coming up with Ten.

I have a feeling Ser will hug everyone, thereby incapacitating them.

Ser. He is a puppy. Speaking of puppies, we're getting two. Not at once, but one at a time.

"The Ten."  Let's. I need a project that goes somewhere (and doesn't involve chickens).

I thought you said dogs were smelly!

I did, but I repent. Truly. I had dogs growing up, but aside from our terrier Twinkie (don't ask me, I didn't get a vote in  naming her), none of them liked me. Well, Snoopy did, but he was ancient and I was three.

We need real dogs - like, guardian/working types because I'd rather keep predators away than deal with the alternative. So we're getting a Great Pyrenees and a Rough Collie. Eventually.

:D

You should get a big dog and a little yapper to get the big one riled up. That's what everyone here does.

You had me up until saying you like the passive voice. That hurts, sister. And I thought you were saved!

Shelties. You need shelties. Most people aren’t smart enough. But you are smart, sister. And you have good self esteem. So you won’t be threatened by them, when you find that they’ve gotten bored while yinz were asleep, torn down the barn, and rebuilt in a much more efficient (and oddly beautiful) design.

Get mongrels. Mutts. They're the best.

Last dog I had was a mix of Border Collie and Labrador. Clever little *******.

Infuriating.

Sometimes, I swear, he was laughing at me!

Ugh do NOT get a blue heeler.

You're way too wrapped up in Skunk Strunk and White, just a few more in the list of people who can't tell me what to do. BTW have you shot yourself yet?

I'm thinking IMPOSING here...you know, the kind of dog that would give a fox or coyote pause. We do have bears, though, and no dog can fend off a bear (and we would never let a dog of any breed try - we love animals), but small critters might think twice before sampling the chickens if a big GP had decided to make them part of his protected turf.

The collie is so I can finally unpack all the emotional baggage from the Lassie films (re-runs, actually) of my youth. What an unworthy bunch her family was.

(And NO, I'm NOT sentimental. Slightly nostalgic. Maybe.)

Po' Blind James. He can't. He'd miss.
