I finally got the $29 upgrade to Windows 7 converted into a regular boot DVD that allows for clean installs. If anyone wants to know how and save themselves from tons of frustration, let me know.

29 dollars for an upgrade from Vista?

Reply to This

I'm waiting for SP1 to come out.
There's no rollback feature. Neither did some of my programs work, and while I had internet connectivity I could not surf or get email.
Due to time constraints (a project needing to be finished before vacation) I had to reimage the drive with Vista (ugh!).
Thankfully I had backed up everything but my email, and it's archived on Google.
It seems these releases are nothing but betas.
My brother warned me about that kind of stuff....but........

Yep. It even works as a clean install on a fresh hard drive.

Wish I had known. I'm sitting on $125 until SP1 is released.

I've been using the release candidate for months now with no issues.

Especially if you start with a re-format. LOL

Vista was the final straw for me. Never had anything but problems with it.
Can't believe MS gets away with releasing such crap.

So...I bought a Mac three weeks ago. Happy, happy!

However, my husband still plans to upgrade our Vista PC to Windows 7; however, I have no plans to use it. :)

Glad to hear you didn't have a gazillion problems with your upgrade, though. Hopefully Windows 7 is not a repeat of past failures.

I also switched to Mac after a Vista disaster... never, never, never, never going back. Well over two years of pure computing bliss and counting.

Never said I didn't have issues! LOL I was initially try to upgrade from Windows 7 Eval copy and/or Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Home Premium. That didn't work. And it doesn't help that the default download from Digital River for the upgrade isn't in a ISO format. You have to jump through some hoops to create a bootable DVD from it.

I have to ask. Why in the world would you get the new version of Windows when it is first released? It's like you are volunteering to be a beta tester...
I didn't go to Vista right away. Heard too many bad things about it. The release candidate for Windows 7 has already been out for months now though, and I was running it here at home with great success. It's faster and cleaner than Vista - even after the service packs. I like it a lot more.

Isn't it great? I was so frustrated I just couldn't stand it any longer. It felt great to walk into a store and NOT buy a PC. My own little line in the stand. The peasant stands up. :)

I won't be going back either!

The peasant stands up and what...swallows the Jobs' Kool-Aid? I kinda figured that this would turn into a "mine is bigger/better" thing. Mac-heads just can resist. But the truth is that not everyone can afford to go spend twice as much on a logo or has the budget to go out and replace tons or previously purchased software. Some of us are on a very tight budget and don't really care for Steve Jobs' control-freak tendencies when it comes to what you are and are not allowed to do on your computer. Don't get me wrong. I love my iPhone. But it is nowhere near as good as it could be if they were to just open it up and let developers improve on it. Steve Jobs is smart, but he doesn't know everything. He has some design style, but his isn't the only one or necessarily the best one out there. So lets not pretend that those "I'm a Mac" ads reflect some kind of objective reality and feel the need to repeat all the talking points here. That wasn't what the OP was about.

Oh lighten up, Daniel. This is NOT "mine is better." I'm just happy to be rid of a miserable OS - and Vista was a piece of crap. I put up with it for two years - there, now, does that mitigate things for you? Don't want anyone to be TOO happy!

Do you have to pontificate on everything?

And for everything you say about Steve Jobs, I can say twice as much about MS and their tactics. Logo indeed.

By the way - I'm on a budget too. You make a LOT of assumptions.

Geez.

Sorry I said anything. I should know better!
