It's Back!

Sorry for the last group getting deleted. Unfortunately, there was no way to transfer the moderator abilities from Michael to me (Barrett) without deleting and recreating. Hopefully, we will be able to pick back up.

Well, hello to all my reformed brethren and as well as the not so reformed that I've noticed frequent this group.

I joined Theologica a couple (2, 3, 4?) months ago, but I've been slow about actually diving in. Please, allow myself to introduce... uh... myself.

My name is Ray (not to be confused with Rey). Professionally, I am an intelligence analyst in the U.S. Army. I am a Staff Sergeant (E6) and I have been selected for Sergeant First Class (E7). Well that about does it for my job.

As for who I am.

I am a Christian, specifically a Reformed Baptist, Confessional, Creedal, Covenant Theological, Amillenial (w/ a bit of post mil). Uh, the confession is the 1689 London Baptist Confession. The Creeds are the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and (my personal favorite) the Athanasian Creed. The Covanent is a single act of Grace purposed by God before the foundation of the earth. And, the millenium is now, Christ rules over His kingdom from the throne of David at the right hand of the Father!

I am a husband. I married my highschool sweetheart and best friend nearly ten years ago. She has been the greatest blessing in my life, and I thank God for her love, patience, beauty, care, and faith every day. The army has sent me away alot, and I've had to move my whole family too many times, but I can always find myself home in her arms.

I am a father of two boys. My oldest (13, adopted) was saved, repented, and was baptized nearly 5 years ago. He is a BoyScout. He is a hard worker. He is probably the kindest, most respectful thirteen year old you might ever have the pleasure of meeting. He reads at least one book a week, studies the Bible, and is currently being forced (by me and wife with the help of our church) to learn the Confession. I am outrageously proud of him.

My youngest (7) is learning the Baptist Catechism (one question a week). He is a CubScout. He is not a hard worker until kicked into start, then he does fine. He is a little hellion with a bit of a mean streak in him (just like his old man). But, he is the cutest guy you could ever hope to see and he will call you "sir" or "ma'am" when addressed, then kick you in the shin when you pinch his cheeks (I teach, he learns).

I love fishing. My favorite drink is two fingers of Glen Moorish (18 y/o) over three cubes. My favorite novel is Farenheit 451. My favorite biography is The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt. My favorite book of the Bible is Romans. My favorite ECF is Tertullian (or Augustine). I like long walks on the beach..... *cough*

Um, Bible. NASB, but will probably get an ESV soon. Then I'll probably go back to the NASB. I love the NASB.

I'm not vain, I just wanted to get all this out of the way so I can get back to my mirror as soon as possible.

Enough about me, how about you? Come here often?

Hello everyone :) I think I'm coming round to the whole 'calvinism' side of thinking. I was an aminian, well my dh thinks so! but it's not actually that clear in church, and I think my church has all sorts of believers in it! I know a few calvinists, some aminian believers and a few signs and wonders folk, but I do wonder how long they will stay as we are NOT that kind of church! ;) Folks in my bible study group are a mixed bag of believers! But we all get on even if we have different views on scripture. Is anyone here in a church like that? Our church is definitely a church that preaches Christ crucified, but it's not strong on discipleship, but I think this is something the leadership is addressing. I'm sorry..I'm rambling, but I wanted to say that I'll try and be a student of the reformed faith and hope to learn/glean lots from you all!

Greetings fellow Reformed Study Group members...

I'm just getting around to introducing myself (sorry for the lapse). I've been a member since June (I think), but have yet to comment. Check out my page to know a little more about me.

I would consider myself "mostly Reformed." I would tend to agree with most tenets of reformed theology (I even own an ESV Reformation Study Bible, it's like the secret decoder ring).

The only thing I struggle with is the eschatological side of things. Being raised a Baptist, I tend to a dispensational view of the end times. I've done some study on the issue (mostly from dispensational authors), and am interested in reading about the "other side."

Anyway, hope to be a vital member of the community.

Hello everyone, fellow sheep in the reformed circle. I am happy to see that there's a group dedicated to the TRUTH as preached by Jesus, John and Paul. Speaking of bibles - i also have the reformation study bible (njkv) by ligonier. I also have the 'spirit of the reformation' study bible from Zondervan - includes similar but superior notes compared to 'ligonier's study bible' and also includes the great confessions of faith - westminster, belgic, heidelberg and canons of dort - ALMOST the perfect study bible EXCEPT that it is the NIV translation which i have such a hard time digesting. Still a worthy buy though. God bless everyone.

I think my Bible is an ESV Reformation Study Bible from Ligonier, but I don't have it handy, so I can't be absolutely sure.
