This is as difficult as naming my 5 favorite cigars! 1. Matthew 2, John 3. Isaiah 4. Deuteronomy 5. 1 Corinthians

Juan, Your original assertion is flawed. Two counterpoints: First, Paul does not say one can't boast about one's works. He says simply "lest anyone should boast." He doesn't say "lest anyone should boast about their works." Second, according to...

Did the author of Psalm 119 cross the line into idolatry? If so may the spirit of bibiolatry fall upon me with a mighty vengeance! So why do we not find mention of Scripture in many of the ancient creeds? I may be wrong but it's my opinion that m...

Ha Ha Ha! In my 2nd year German class I had no clue how to pronounce Goethe's name. The class snickered at me. Kind of embarassing but I figure if I try to cloak my ignorance I don't learn.

No duh. Someone needs to create an Idiot's Guide to Van Til so I can get it.

Jason, The four commentaries I would use are: 1. NIGTC by F.F. Bruce. 2. The Bible Speaks Today entry from John Stott. Don't overlook this because of the "series" or the "size" of the book. I think this one pairs well as an expositional companio...

Seriously though, just get your box(es) of frozen patties from Sam's or Costo. All beef, the redder the better. We typically let them cook a couple of minutes before putting the seasoning on. We use dry fajita seasoning. One thing, keep a close ey...

Bush 43 took a lot of darts for saying the same thing. I have a similar but different take. Americans will do the menial jobs. The aides changing my mom's diapers are legal. The men collecting our trash are legal. In fact when I drove a garbage tr...

We spent a few years in a Disciple's congregation. I wouldn't characterize them as committed to the Law since there was not any 1 of the big 10 they didn't tolerate (or applaud) transgressing. To Char's point they were very "me" focused, very emot...

I'll never forget how a number of years ago a young man asserted that I was being disobedient to God's call on my life by not quitting my job and hauling my family into the mission field once I finished seminary. I had no call to the mission field...

Ha! Right about now we need AA more than AAA.

Hope I did this right. If so, this is a picture of my wife and me on the day of our "wedding." Well, we eloped to Oklahoma. With my mom. The justice of the peace who married us was a used car salesman.

I work for a major discount brokerage house in middle management. Basically work consumes my time and energy during the week. Been with the same firm for 23 years and hope to retire in about 10 years. Music is probably my biggest passion and enjo...

I read little fiction. Just not enough time. I read the commentaries, church history, some writings by popular preachers like MacArthur and Swindoll. I also like to read business-related books since that is my day job. I usually do my book reading...

Profile Information

Tell us about yourself
Married 30 plus years with three adult kids, all of whom still live with us along with their pets! I have worked for a major investment firm for 20+ years . I love bicycling, playing drums, am a bit of a cigar aficionado ("cigar snob"), and tinkering in the yard.
How would you describe yourself theologically?
Doctrinally - Conservative. Disassembled. Premill but not dispensational. Theologically I subscribe to the Theological Seminary of Fence Jumpers. Little bit of this and some of that. I believe the most reasonable theological dialogues are shared over a cigar or two.
Who is the greatest theologian in the last 2000 years? (Besides Biblical People!)
Ancient - Athanasius, Modern Era - Barth.

Welcome to Theologica!

Great link to the Paul Page, btw. I've bookmarked it as one of my favorites and look forward to reading some of the articles but especially those by Tom Wright.

Nice picture of your daughter, too. She's quite pretty.
