How would you describe yourself theologically?
I normally like to stay pretty ambiguous about these things, but I'll do just the opposite and use as many labels as possible:

Soteriologically: 2 point Calvinist (aka Arminian)
Redemptive Historically: 90% New Covenentalist, 10% Covenentalist
Eschatologically: Currently undecided between Amillenialist and Historic Premillenialist (although I'm about 75% Amillenial)
Anthropologically(?): Complementarian
Epistemologically: Foundationalist
Politically: Libertarian
Economically: Austrian

I also attend a Nazarene Church, but I disagree with Entire Sanctification
Who is the greatest theologian in the last 2000 years? (Besides Biblical People!)
I gotta give it up to either Athanasius or the Cappadocian Fathers

I don't know whether anyone else can read a person's mind, but the ability to read a person's mind is not the same as being omniscient. God certainly perceives our thoughts from afar, but has always known them anyway, because He knows everything. ...

If read the mind its not omniscience, what is "read the mind"? The Lord knows every single thought... that´s part of His omniscience, omnipotence and omnipresence, because He is God. Can someone else read the mind? Some person? Some angel? The Psa...

I don' think that the Devil nor any of his minions can read our minds. But, lets say we hold to a young earth theory and lets for the sake of the argument say that the earth is 12,000 years old. Also, lets assume that the Devil and his minions hav...

Why the Church must do more than just give money

Every year, America funnels literally billions of dollars into Africa. Our local church itself has joined with some organizations to provide food and clothing to specific parts of Africa in order to help the absolute destitution that exists over there. I don't think this is a bad thing, but if this is all we do, then it is a bad thing.

Consider: A surplus of free goods will inevitably disrupt the supply/demand curve of an economy. A poor African farmer trying to eek out a living is certa… Continue

Of Fern Seeds and Elephants

I've been reading a lot of historical Jesus studies lately and it is absolutely baffling just how far off some of these scholars can be in their assessment of both Jesus and the New Testament.

For instance, I've just finished going through some of John Dominic Crossan's work. Crossan is one of the most respected and world-renown scholars working in the field of New Testament studies today (and is one of the leading players in the Jesus Seminar, if that tells you anything). Here are some of the… Continue

Milton's Mammon and the New Atheists

I'm going through John Milton's 'Paradise Lost', and couldn't help but notice that the plea of the arch-demon Mammon after the fall is eerily similar to the cry of the new atheists today. I have a great many atheist friends who would gladly give a hearty 'amen' to the following excerpt from Mammon's speech, not knowing it's hellish origin:

...How wearisome
Eternity so spent in worship paid
To whom we hate! Let us not then pursue
By force impossible, by leave obtained
Unacceptable, though in Hea… Continue

English Bible Translation Ratings (Part 1)

I'll avoid the pontification and get right to the post. Here is a list of English bible translations along with my thoughts and ratings. My knowledge of Hebrew is non-existent, and my knowledge of Greek is virtually non-existent. I do, however, have a pretty firm grasp of the English language, and I know what I like. I have not read through the entire bible with each of these translations, but I have read and studied with enough of each of them to make an informed opinion on the matter.

This po… Continue

Winter! Is the reason I moved to NC when I retired!
It snowed here three nights ago! We were treated to severe weather warnings, on tv. If you looked real hard, you could see touches of white in the shaded areas, up until noon, that is! I don't own a snow-shovel. I have seen snow blowers up at Lowe's, but I don't know why! Id does snow in the mountains. thats the only reason I live in the foot-hills.
Back in march of '82, we had a snow, here, that was on the road for about 3 days! All schools closed!
But anything like this, would have gone un-noticed in Mich! Jack

Chad; My home-town was Flint, Mi. I retired in '90, and moved to North Carolina. Those long dreary winters drove me out! It got down to 11 degrees night before last. That's pretty cold, here! Jack
