Profile Information

Tell us about yourself
I've traveled an long and inquisitive road through the varied world of protestantism (slightly snagged by a detour or two) to experience and glean what God was trying to teach me...always knowing He was there yet trying to listen to His still small voice....finally able to admit that some of my best teaching came from my mistakes and failures. He, and only He, makes my path straight.

I'm a pretty good musician and God always seems to use me there.

I volunteer for Compassion International because I believe in its mission and execution of that mission. Those born into poverty have taught me the value of a life well lived with God, yet without physical wealth.

I appreciate that my family is a precious gift from God.

The desire of my heart is to know God so intimately that one day, when I see Him face to face, He will smile and say, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Ignorance Is No Excuse

Serenity on Lake Irwin

In his book "The Soul's Quest for God" R.C. Sproul says, "Spiritual discernment is neither a new revelation nor an understanding that takes place in a vacuum. Christianity is not an esoteric religion attainable only by an elite group who alone are privy to divine truth. The revelContinue

Unforeseen Discoveries

Life is a journey for each one of us. Along our journey we encounter strange and wonderful surprises that touch our hearts. In the very next moment, we stumble and trip on unforeseen and not-so-wonderful jolts that bushwhack our perceptions and erode our expectations.

The Genericazation of Christianity

OK — so “genericazation” isn’t really a word. Perhaps I should use “generification” since that is a real word, but that word doesn’t quite describe my thoughts on the subject.

Maybe some of you are like me — maybe you have become weary of watching the one true, historic Ch… Continue

Rain in the Desert

It rained and rained this weekend. While that may be the norm where you live, out here, it is unusual. Here in The West, we have learned to appreciate each drop of moisture. When you live in the high dessert, every droplet of precious rain is a life-giving force for every blade of… Continue

Holly, I believe God is faithful to His children. He uses our best and our worst. You can't do a perfect job - none of us can or will. But my favorite thing you said was -- for his glory, honor and praise. You have it in the right order :)

Very good points, Holly. Also, with older children, I find mothers are so tired -- being pulled here and there -- running here and there to volleyball, piano/band practice, youth group, worship team practice (a million distractions)---that one mor...

BSF is great -- so is CBS (Community Bible Study). I agree that the Sunday am is limited -- my point was that pastor's should be inciting the people in the congregation to learn instead of all the touchy-feely stuff they are preaching today. They ...

Nice pic! I like it!

OK, now this IS getting kooky - I'M 25% Cherokee also! My father's side is American Indian and Irish, and apparently we had ancestors who walked the Trail of Tears; anyway, my father's family lived in Oklahoma before moving to Arkansas around the turn of the 19th century. They originally came from Georgia; in fact, I had relatives who fought for the south in the Civil War. I'd love to find out more, but I only have so much time to devote to projects, and I figure that one can wait. :)

I don't believe I "look" Irish, Italian OR particularly Indian, although I tan very easily!

I'm not sure how to remove the Update status bar from the top of the page, although there's probably a way. I keep using it to quote from literature; it seems as good a use as any. Hehe

I haven't had a moment to read your blog post; kind of drowsy tonight, but I'm glad to see you here.

Grace & peace,

Holly

Maybe we are related! :) If you ever find yourself back east, consider visiting and hitting the trails with us!

I will remember your advice when looking for a collie pup. I also understand they can have eye problems. *Sigh* Like a lot of breeds, they are an overbred type.

Yes, we live in PA, but in the western part of the state. Amish settlements are everywhere. They tend not to have a good reputation when it comes to animals and quite a few puppy mills have been Amish-run, unfortunately.

I love the country, too - and hoping we move this year (Lord willing). You do live in a beautiful area, though. Maybe you'll post some photos (hint, hint). I remember I used to belong to a forum - Dreamhorse, I think it was - and some guy lived in Wyoming or Montana and he was always taking the most incredible photos and posting them online. He could have made his living at it, they were that breathtaking.

Anyway - many blessings to you, sister! I am so glad to have "met" you and hope to continue to get to know you!

Peace,

Holly

Ah...both my parents were Marines, but just during the tail end of WWII. One more thing in common!

The Rockies are glorious. I am always moved by God's handiwork. I feel very close to God when I am out in the middle of nature - or even in the middle of a thunderstorm in a How Great Thou Art sort of way - all he has made, all is for him and his glory - it's so incredible.

I used to have a gaited horse - a Tennessee Walker - he and I didn't hit it off (I broke my ankle in two places crashing on him) so I sold him to a pastor friend and his wife, who adore him and spoil him rotten. :) My mare is a much better match for me. I know some people don't like mares but I have always gotten along with them. Sally is a great. Bossy, but great.

I still have a gaited horse - sort of - a sidewheeler. Ben is a Standardbred (a tall one) we saved from a grim life pulling an Amish buggy - he has a lateral gait. I think one day I may try to teach him to rack. And he has such sense - bombproof, really. We once saw a bear on the trails and all he did was take a couple of steps to one side. Really! Great horse.

I like Mustangs (which is why I asked if Gracey had any Mustang lineage) a lot and used to ride a BLM Mustang named Glory. We always had a hard time getting anything on her head but she was fun on the trails. I'd like to have one of my own someday. Maybe!

(Uh-oh, horse talk...you know horse people - lol - we go on and on - please forgive!)

Your dog is soooooo cute! When you get the puppy, you must post a pic. When we move I plan on getting a collie pup so I can finally work through the emotional baggage all those Lassie films left me with. :)

I'll pray the rattlesnake just goes away and leaves your perennials in peace. A gardener, too, I take it?

This is fun!

Peace,

Holly

Hi Kathy!

Well, we ARE part of the same family, by adoption through the same Savior by the same Father, so we ARE kin, sister, :) And it does appear we share many of the same interests.

Gracey is cute - I'm sure you miss her very much. What was her breed? Does she have any Mustang in her? I love my horses and cats - they bring me a lot of joy and I consider them gifts from God. I regard their lives with compassion, as I would the life of a human being, and see no conflict in doing so.

Interestingly enough, I almost moved to Colorado (tempted by all that sunshine!) back in 2001, but events conspired to keep me in the east. I remember once driving to Denver Int'l Airport from the eastern, much flatter part of the state, trying to outrun a tremendous storm - all these huge black clouds swallowing up everything behind me, while everything in front was lit by the brightest sunlight. The sky was a study in deep gray, purple, brilliant blue, yellow and green. I'll never forget it!

So, I said all that to say it's nice to get to know you also. :)

Many blessings,

Holly
