We bagged the baby food jars a while ago. I concur--they are just not worth the money. We've just given him "big people food" or whatever we're eating. So far he hasn't gone throw withdrawls (more than twice..lol jk).

My wife and I have been using AFM and we like it. It has a great selection and really does appear to save $. Which is great for tightwads like me. ;) Oh, it's due to pick up tomorrow! :)

Please pray for my mom...

Today she is having a stint placed in her heart. We are told this is a pretty common procedure, but for us (and mom especially) this is anything but common. So pray that our nerves would be calmed and that, ultimately, she would get relief from her heart troubles so that God's name would proclaimed even more by this wonderful servant of God.

I wish I could take credit for this...

I've had some of the same thoughts, but have never been so eloquent in collecting and writing them down. The following is something written by my cousin:

i've been told i see the world differently than most people. to some i'm strange. to others refreshing. to many annoying. to a few insightful. lately i have been revisiting some old thoughts. evaluate them for what they are worth. it is my contention that church, as beneficial as it is to us, is not for us. instead church is about God and HContinue

lyrics to meditate on

Oh the Deep, Deep Love

Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus
Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free
Rolling as a mighty ocean
In its fullness over me
Underneath me, all around me
Is the current of Your love
Leading onward, leading homeward
To Your glorious rest above

Oh the deep, deep love
All I need and trust
Is the deep, deep love of Jesus

Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus
Spread His praise from shore to shore
How He came to pay our ransom
Through the saving cross He bore
How He watches o’er His loved o… Continue

Fatherhood hasn't come easy

All these blogs about fatherhood got me thinking. I call my parents (who are 800 miles away) once a week to catch up and make sure things are ok. During my last conversation, my mom asked me if fatherhood came naturally to me or if I felt like I was learning by trial and error. I confessed it was the latter. Maybe it's the fact that I'm the youngest in my family and I was always the one being babysat. I can't think of a time growing up when I was responsible for anyone's children. This is probab… Continue

Best Craigslist ad ever

OK, let me start off by saying this Xterra is only available for purchase by the manliest of men (or women). My friend, if it was possible for a vehicle to sprout chest hair and a five o'clock shadow, this Nissan would look like Tom Selleck. It is just that manly.
It was never intended to drive to the mall so you can pick up that adorable shirt at Abercrombie & Fitch that you had your eye on. It wasn't meant to transport you to yoga class or Linens & Things. No, that's what your Prius is… Continue

Kevin, this is the group who did the version of "In Christ Alone" I was speaking of. Don't know if you are familiar with them or not. Their version of Solid Rock is also very nice. I got the album as a free download-don't know if that's still going as they have put the album for sale on itunes.

Anyway thought you might appreciate it.

I think we intuitively understand God as an object of worship—that is to say that we worship him. He is the object of our worship.

I think in looking back on this that mainly I'm concerned with the musical aspects, because I think worship is obviously a state of being more than what you do on Sunday before the sermon.

Regardless, I think that we've lost the tendency to make him also the subject of our worship—that is, that our worship not only has God as its object, but also as its subject. That's not to say that every song we sing needs to be a theological treatise, but that meditative worship should tell me about who God is—not just about how I should feel about him.

While I don't want to over intellectualize worship (the way we've done to belief), I would think that there is some merit to songs that inspires worship by describing who God is and what he's done—not by specifically invoking worship phraseology.

Kev—saw your post on the worship the rock site. Looks like an interesting topic.

I once opined that "God should not just be the object of our worship, but also the subject." What do you think about this? I have no real qualifications in the worship arena, just curious on your thoughts.

Hey, here's a link to the "no Nobis Domine" from Henry V. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewbuPY3uGQ4&feature=related

Great movie. Shakespearian, so you have to see it a couple times to understand the dialog. Anyhoo, we do a doxology from Psalm 72 to the tune. Reeealy cool.

I'm in the Atlanta area. My son and I had a weekly tradition a few years back where we went to WH every Sunday morning for breakfast on our way to church. Nothing else was open that early. So not only does WH have a lot of great food, it reminds me of happier times. There is tradition and sentiment added to the mix.
