Derek, I'm not sure why you feel you must poison the well by stretching yourself to somehow link LDS beliefs with Arianism, and when that fails, with Gnosticism. We would do well to simply evaluate Mormonism on it's own grounds. It seems the fair...

Part of me wishes that, for the sake of interfaith dialogue, we wouldn't use the word "god" at all. So many preconceived ideas and assumptions exist when someone says "god."

Hi Derek. I'm not going to disagree with you that important differences exist between the LDS understanding of the Trinity, and the mainstream Trinitarian understanding of the Trinity. I was simply pointing out that the simple statement you made e...

I'm with you so far.

So the law of the land doesn't define murder as someone who kills in self-defense. So then, as a Christian, are there exceptions for Biblical law? I mean... can I, in good conscience, have a rifle in my home and shoot the next burglar? This isn't murder to the world, I totally see that. But what is it to Christians?

Sorry. I don't mean to attack... I was just wondering how your church deals with the strange scenario. Reading John Taylor's account, "He, however, instantly arose, and with a firm, quick step, and a determined expression of countenance, approached the door, and pulling the six-shooter left by Brother Wheelock from his pocket, opened the door slightly, and snapped the pistol six successive times; only three of the barrels, however, were discharged. I afterwards understood that two or three were wounded by these discharges, two of whom, I am informed died." simply made me curious as to how the mormons viewed this.
I don't have any information concerning the historical facts... just the statement from gentlemen whom was there at the time. So (I'm guessing here) does your church separate him from the whole thing because it was in self defense? Honestly just curious - your tone sounded defensive and I truly am not trying to stump you.

And should I take your silence about my next question as a 'yes'?

James,
I have often wondered (when pondering all things mormon) a few things since studying them in a US history class a few ::ahem:: years ago and I hope that you can answer. So murderers end up in the lowest degree of glory, right? What of Joseph Smith who murdered two men on his way out of this world? Is he not going to be "caught up unto the church of the Firstborn" according to his own doctrines? What does your church say about this?

Can I ask one more thing?
Do most mormons call Christians 'anti-mormons'?

Thanks in advance.
