Tell us a little about yourself
I am just about 2/3 of the way through the ThM program at Dallas Seminary, with a focus on Systematic Theology. Learning is fun, but in the end it is about God's program for people. I'm a widow with two great kids, ages 22 and 14. I also splatter my musings at Parchment and Pen theology blog periodically.
How would you describe yourself theologically (ie. what do you believe)?
I'd like to believe that a unified understanding of scripture informs my theology based on a consistent hermeneutic that takes into account the Bible as God's revelation, progressively unveiled through marked eras and ultimately revealed in Christ. I believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration and inerrancy of scripture.

I believe that God the Son, the divine logos, eternally existent with God, willingly invaded humanity to offer a substitutionary sacrifice to save lost people, including myself. His resurrection guarantees life and hope to those who would trust in him and his reconciliatory work on the cross relieves the guilt of transgressions. My desire is to live and express that on a continual basis to impact others with the beauty of Christ so they in turn will want to optimize their worship and knowledge of him.

I am Calvinistic, pre-millennial, dispensational and complementarian. I went from being a crazy charismatic to a crusty cessationist and now live somewhere in a place called Tension.
Who, outside of Bible characters, is your favorite theologian or pastor of the last 2,000 years.
John Calvin, John Feinberg and St. Irenaeus

Jesus, Friend of Sinners

Posted on May 8, 2012 at 9:00pm 2 Comments

I think this song speaks volumes.  For some reason, we think that Jesus came to beat people over the head with sin.  Sin already condemns.  He came to extend grace.  Listen to the words...

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not condemn the world, but to save the world through him."

Serious Christianity

Posted on November 4, 2011 at 9:10pm 14 Comments

I was thinking about what various traditions take so serious...

Roman Catholics are so serious about the Church

Eastern Orthodox are so serious about tradition and the Trinity

Reformed Christians are so serious about Scripture and Calvin

Evangelicals are so serious about themselves and their agendas

Future of Seminaries?: We Need Go-Getters Not Faith Tradition

Posted on October 23, 2011 at 10:39pm 7 Comments

I found this article on the future of seminaries rather disturbing, especially this snippet here in an interview with the head of the Association of Theological Schools:

Churches are at a moment where they are relatively impatient with the long tradition. They would rather have someone who knows how to help the…

T - Life Together

Posted on October 15, 2011 at 1:37pm 2 Comments

Ironically, as things erupted here over the past few days, I have been reading Life Together by Dietrich Bonhoeffer.  If you haven't read the book I highly recommend it.  But I'd just thought I'd share some snippets.

"We belong to Him because we are in Him.  That is why scripture calls us the body of Christ.  But if, before we could know and wish it, we have been chosen and accepted with the whole church of Jesus Christ, then we also belong to Him in eternity with…

I'm such a jerk that I doubt I'd only do an art bump. I'd make fun of the logic. So I'll make Christ a deacon. A choir director. A cooking master. etc.

The first message on the list at our podcast site? If it is titled Knowing & Believing the Love of God, then that was me.

Hi Lisa, thanks!  Am up to my ears in wonderful good work, my favorite place to be.  Our Bible study launched a new study of Isaiah this year, and the class I teach swelled to max capacity (500 women), which meant our leaders' circle at this point is comprised of 70 women to teach and train ~ has kept me often on my knees in prayer, and "in the books" with prep.

Have also been included as one of two anonymous writers for an international study series, and am finding that work engrossing, fulfilling and enriching.  Very thankful for the opportunity.  My husband and I are also developing a training course for high school grads headed for college, an "Own Your Faith" sort of intensive six-week seminar based on Lee Strobel's "Case For Faith," R.C. Sproul's "Essential Truths Of The Christian Faith," the five solas and six helpful tools for every Christian (Bible study, prayer, sharing the gospel, leading a group, homiletics, teaching a study).  Our church plans to launch the course in June, so we're working double time to get it mapped out.

How about you?  How are your studies coming along?

 IF YA GET TIME,

Cool.  I thought so, but I was just checking.  I noticed you're not the only one who's put "premilennialist"  down.  I was just wondering at the ambiguousness, that is, if there was an actual opinion behind it.

Anyway, are we cool, sister?

Hey, Lisa. Totally random question. I'm curious. I noticed in your What I Believe section above you called yourself a premillenialist. Do you subscribe to a rapture view (i.e., pretrib, midtrib, etc.)? I was thinking you were pre, but maybe I'm supposing.

ok we're now 'friends' but when I read the moderator rules, apparently becoming my friend should not fool me to believe that you are really my friend, so I'm not fooled LOL....

Are you on the moderator SWAT team?
