Okay, let me start with my answer: Jesus was incapable of sin. Now, let me (1) disprove the other option (capable of sin) and then (2) I'll offer a proof for my answer. 1. Jesus was fully God and fully man, this we know. If Jesus was fully God, a...

This is not asking if He was a snappy dresser. And it isn't about whether Christ was sinless. Clearly He was: For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we a...

LAST seems to key on the last post and count back, making a full page. NEXT appears to bring up whatever posts are subsequent to the penultimate page (eschew obfuscation!), and may just be a single post.

Typo. My bad. I meant you are sui generis.

1 Timothy 2:12 Q&A

One day I may make good on my threat to write "101 (Bogus) Ways to Keep 1 Timothy 2:12 from Cramping Your Style," but I haven't quite found 101 yet, and I keep figuring I'll stumble on to a legitimate one sooner or later. No luck so far. In the interim, however, we have Dr. Daniel Wallace's recent post on "Interpretive Issues in 1 Timothy 2:12," in which he lays out "the major interpretive issues

An Odd "Even"--και and "The Israel of God" in Galatians 6:16

The phrase “the Israel of God” is connected to the rest of Galatians 6:16 in Greek by the word και as the following interlinear citation demonstrates. The και in question is the third one in the verse, appearing here in the first position on the bottom row.

και οσοι τω κανονι τουτω στοιχησουσιν
and / as-many-as / by-the / rule / this / walk

ειρηνη επ' αυτους και ελεος
peace / on / them / and / mercy

και επι τον Iσραηλ του θεου

Yes, and What is that "Something New?"

Rey Reynoso has done us the kindness of presenting a series of posts regarding the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church, with implications for appropriate practice today. As always, his case is thoughtful, Scripture based and represents a very significant investment of time, energy and care for the people of God.

I am writing this response, however, because in my opinion a number of the conclusions he comes to are utterly incorrect. I decided to respond in a separate post rather that in the co… Continue

Happy Boothday, Jesus?

Hey kids, know what week it is? It's Sukkoth time AKA Feast of Tabernacles AKA Feast of Booths. It's sundown October 2 through sundown October 9 this year.

And you know what that means? It's myth-bustin' time.

About this time of year, or maybe closer to Christmas, someone may tell you that in fact Jesus was born during the Feast of Booths, and that if you look carefully, the Bible actually tells us this.

Now this is a charming and fun little mythoid. And it is particularly beloved to those wh… Continue

An Open Skarlet Letter 3: Like Totally.

Rebekah,

Okay, it’s time to start tiptoeing through the TULIP.

You identify TULIP with "Calvinism." This of course is common shorthand device. The reference is actually to five specific interrelated doctrines in Reformed soteriology—the so called “doctrines of grace.”

Anyway, your part 3 is about the T: Total Depravity, a doctrine that is definitely basic to Reformed soteriolog… Continue

Hey Marv,

Thanks for the book recommendations. Gonna tackle Patrck O'Brian's series - actually, Persuasion is my favorite Austen novel, and it's largely about the British Navy, so this should be interesting. Even to a St. Francis of Assisi quotin' INFJ/P vegetarian evangelical. ;)

Peace & grace,

Holly

Hi Marv,
I was going to give you a gift but I squandered all my credits on Char and her insatiable appetite for sushi. She's like cat woman, which makes sense of her love for "kittehs" We need to feed her if we want her to stay around. ;)

we agree 100% on election. If, however, I used that truth to deny second chance, There is a 100% certainty that the discussion wpuld turn into a debate on election. It has been discussed, here, and I doubt that anyone's mind has been changed.
Anyway, I didn't realize that was a play on words. I can be very dense, at times.
I believe there are many scriptural arguments to defeat second chance, that people who reject election, might accept, without using election, that turns them off.
If folks accept teaching that they "feel good" about, but reject those that they don't like, where is their submission to scripture? Oh! That's right! They have tradition, which, in many cases, ignores or contradicts scripture.
They might be "babes" in Christ, or maybe someone else's kid.
I remember that while I was following tradition (church authority), I had not been re-generated, yet, so I find it hard to understand how regenerate believers never read their bible, or question their church's authority.
I acknowledge that I cannot judge their heart, but I can't help but wonder.
