Spine surgery?! Yikes! Hope all is well.

I tend to come in and out of the discussion, with family and work allowing, but it seems to come in chunks. So, if you ever see me disappear for months at a time, I am usually not dead. :0)

To Mike Beidler:
Sorry for the late response toyour comments of a few days back. I’ve been extremely busy.

By the way I read Dr. Collins’ “Language of God” about a year ago, and very much enjoyed it. However, when I read his section for Macro-evolution, I found it very disappointing because he, as great a scientist as he is, did not bring forth any new argument but only repeated the same feeble ones already in use. As for your questions of which books do I reference my comments from, they are listed below.
It is not that I don’t appreciate the importance of genetics, as you already know from my background as a biochemist, and it is not that Macro-evolution does not make sense based upon Micro-evolutionary observations such as adaptation and natural selection, although one must admit that when reading about Mike Behe’s “irreducible complexity” the whole idea of evolution without a designer becomes difficult. But you and I can debate until we are blue in the face and still for the common person, the question is simple; “Does God exist?” and if He does exist “Did God create man or did God let man arise from Apes?” Now if God created man as described in Genesis 1 of the Bible, then clearly God did not let man arise from chimpanzees. And if a person were to say that man did arise from a chimpanzee, then either God is incorrect, which contradicts His omnipotent power, which then makes God a liar for claiming omnipotence, which in turn makes God not good. So I can understand that some want to believe in Macro-evolution because they get caught up with the similarities of chromosomes etc, but if God did allow Macro-evolution to occur, God would in essence be a liar, God would in essence not be good, and certainly God would not be omnipotent. I wish to ask you, is this the Christian God we claim is our God? Is this your Christian God which you followed? Is this the Christian God you want others to come to know and acknowledge as their all loving, all knowing, all powerful God? I find this a waste of time as “old earth Christians” and “young earth Christians” debate and waste time over this issue while losing focus of Christ.
I must admit that as a Christian, I find it curious and very difficult to understand, why another Christian would insist that the Bible is incorrect, especially when there is no solid proof for the descent of man from apes, and at the same time try to insist others to follow this very same God that has supposedly lied to them about how they were created? Certainly God could have made man arise from apes, but had He done so, He would have stated so in the Bible, and if He didn’t state that, either the Bible is wrong, God is wrong, or both Bible and God are wrong! And so I ask, if this were true, and you were a person who was convinced it to be true, why would you as an individual, desire to follow such a Bible and such a God, and why would you want others to follow such a Bible and such a God, if that were true? Indeed, why would you even want to be a Christian, a follower of Christ who is only mentioned in this very same Bible to be this very same untruthful God who has either lied about our creation or doesn’t really have it under control?

John 18:37-38, “Jesus said ‘…Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.’ ‘What is truth?’ Pilate asked. Then Pilate went out…” I’ve often wondered if Jesus chose not to answer Pilate’s question because He knew Pilate had no desire to receive truth or if Pilate chose to go out before Christ could answer because Pilate was afraid of facing the truth. Which do you think? With brotherly blessings from the living and loving Christ.

As per your request, the books which I use are at the very basis of the entire debate: “Origin of Species” by Charles Darwin and “The Bible” by I am that I am.

Very cordially yours, Sung.

Mike,

From reading your blog, I'd like you to clarify a few things. Your title is: "creating an evolutionist". However, your argument only centered around the age of the universe not evolution. These do not have to be inclusive. Where do you stand?

Also, where are you with respect to Noah?

Thanks,

Adam

Mike,

The "baby" from Sung Cha's Russian experiment was on display at the Japaneses Deer Park in Buena Park, CA around 1978-9. The advertized it as "the missing link." They claimed it had 47 chromosomes.

I heard the ads on the radio for months. Then went and saw it.

I can't confirm any of the claims that were made about it.

However, if the experiment was done in the manner Sung Cha reports, the chimp would have most likely killed the woman.

Blessings

Mike,
Thanks for your note. No, I didn't know that had occurred. I'm sorry for that, and I apologize if I was a little too strong. It is just that I've seen and been around people on BOTH sides of the argument that became hostile and accusatory, even belligerent. I'm sure you have as well. Nothing is gained from this, as I'm sure you know. I'd like to hear your arguments, but understand that I am a self-professing YEC. You have the freedom to disagree, I hope I do as well.
Thanks again, and I'm sure I'll "see" you around.
