Holly, I believe God is faithful to His children. He uses our best and our worst. You can't do a perfect job - none of us can or will. But my favorite thing you said was -- for his glory, honor and praise. You have it in the right order :)

Very good points, Holly. Also, with older children, I find mothers are so tired -- being pulled here and there -- running here and there to volleyball, piano/band practice, youth group, worship team practice (a million distractions)---that one mor...

Yup, you bring in a good caution, Holly. Among the young mothers I met who were unwilling to make the effort, were also young mothers who were already in over their heads (fewer of them, but a significant presence nonetheless). I think the early ...

Relax, Nancy. This is exactly what happens around the table of passionate people engaged in a matter close to their hearts. Offense is the chief way Satan is able to shake up and shake out believers, rendering them ineffective in the work (the Lor...

Nancy No one ever said we should not be the hands and feet of Jesus. I think I told you I volunteer in a significant way serving the poor around the world. However, your statement had to be addressed in order to proceed. Here is your statement - r...

"Salvation as in the work of the Holy Spirit on a person's heart is not of our control. Why is that even an issue?" It was a question asked because I was hoping for clarity.

All four of us who are talking about this had babies, and studied the Bible while having babies. I shared your experience, Nancy, for a while. My husband and I had very little money, and part of that is because I was not in a full time job. I pikc...

Tell us about yourself
I love conversing with and reading publications by atheists. When I look past the personal attacks on my faith and my intellect, I learn more about how to reach them.
How would you describe yourself theologically?
I would decribe myself as a very grateful saved sinner, hungry to learn more of God's Word. I'm a seminary student studying apologetics and philosophy under Dr. Norman Geisler. The more I know, the more I don't know.
Who is the greatest theologian in the last 2000 years? (Besides Biblical People!)
Dr. Norman Geisler

Where is a mother to go for answers?

“What is truth?” –Pontius Pilate (~33BC)

Ideas have consequences. It only takes a brief scan of the front page of your local paper or a 60 second sound bite on CNN to confirm this reality. What determines whether our beliefs have ultimately positive or negative consequences? Could it be whether or not our beliefs correspond with reality?

As my children grew older, their insatiable desire for answers grew with their stature. I recalled at 8 years old my own persistent questions drove my mother… Continue

I am nobody… I just look good in a suit.

I have been alone with my thoughts more than I care to be. This reminds me of a scene in The Mirror Has Two Faces where Lauren Bacall (playing Barbara Streisand’s mother) after a sleepless night comments to her middle aged daughter, “It’s awful to leave a woman my age alone with her thoughts.” The inference to age aside, I am realizing that when left alone I seem to default to fault-finding introspection.

I have more time on my hands recently since I am between Seminary courses right now. I lov… Continue

Faith versus Reason

After reading W.K. Clifford’s essay “The Ethics of Belief” and William James’s essay “The Will to Believe” I have been given the task of answering the following questions: 1) Is it always wrong to believe something for which one lacks sufficient evidence? And 2) Is “faith” inconsistent with critical thinking?

The first problem that arises out of these inquiries is the question of what is “sufficient” or what determines “sufficient evidence”? I would have to assert that determination of sufficie… Continue

God seems so distant these days...

When I was a little girl, I loved to go to church. I felt safe there. Everything seemed better at church. Food tasted better, colors were brighter, music came alive and the world made sense. When I played the piano at church, it seemed I could hit any key and it would be bea… Continue

Nancy Unplugged

Over the course of my walk with Christ, He has allowed me the privilege to serve Him in many avenues. My favorite would be discipling and ministering to His people and reaching out to unbelievers. But sometimes I get tired. I am not superhuman, I am not callus. I have suffered in life and in doing so have acquired an ability to share the pain of others. Compassion can only be learned thro… Continue

Hi, fellow Metroplexian.
Just letting you know I stole an image from your blog.
I had Dr. G at DTS sometime in an earlier century. Don't always agree now with everything he says, but he's a fine man.

Tell us about your family. Have you completed your move. I don't mean un-packing. That will take 2 years!

Nancy; I don't see you responding, lately, to any posts. Or is it that I don't notice your avatar, without a name?

Thanks for caring! I'm doing well, for a geezer, that is. In the last 2 months, I've read about 6 books on creation apologetics. And one on "ultimate authority". "The Ultimate Proof of Creation" by Lisle.

Thanks for the welcome, Nancy.
I don't know how much I can discuss here, but I have enjoyed reading.
I hope to blog occasionally. Perhaps I can enter into a little discussion.
The atonement discussion certainly was interesting to read.

Nancy; I've only read J Adam's book "competent to counsel", was impressed with it, and have been wary of counselors, ever since. I believe that the book
"Christian Psychology's war on God's word" is probable in full harmony with J. Adams. Jack
