Tell us about yourself
I currently serve as the Pastor of First Baptist Church in Kingston Missouri. If anyone is looking for a Bible believing church and you are in the area, please join us. http://www.fbckingston.com

On a personal side, I enjoy spending time with my family, fishing, attempting to play my guitar, and sharing the Lord with those who will listen.
How would you describe yourself theologically?
I am a theologically conservative Southern Baptist. I believe firmly in the Bible and the truth that is found in it; the Word of God is inspired and inerrant. I am a pre-tribulation, pre-millennialist when it comes to end times. And, although I agree with some points of Calvinism, I am not a Calvinist. For one (I'm sure I'll get flack for this one), I don't like to be called after a dead French guy. I would much prefer to follow after Jesus and His direct teachings.

When it comes to talking to people, I am very much against trying to prove one's knowledge by over speaking, speaking over, or out right bashing the person. Jesus always spoke to people so that they would understand, and if they didn't, He explained further.

For those that want to debate for the sake of debating, I am not a fan. I equate that with the Pharisees or the Epicureans and Stoics of Acts. For those that want to openly discuss different points of view to genuinely grasp a deeper knowledge of Christ, I look forward to our conversations. I too will be open to other ideas and as the Bereans did, will test them against Scripture.

I have come to realize that the more I study the Bible, the more I understand that I have a lot more to understand. It is on this basis that I am eager to talk to others; that is, with an understanding that none of us know everything.
Who is the greatest theologian in the last 2000 years? (Besides Biblical People!)
Other than Biblical people... Well, you usually hear the good old Edwards, Luther, Calvin...Spurgeon. Those are all great theologians. I would say that in recent history, for me it would have to be Dr. Jim Anderson. He is currently a professor at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and is a great theologian. If I could only learn 10% of what he has forgotten, I would be very pleased.

Hate Speech or Loving Warning?

It seems that the media these days is bound and determined to push the homosexual agenda into the homes of every American through the television and radio. Children today, by and large, do not see a problem with experimenting with same sex "relationships" as they are growing up hearing that it is ok, so long as it feels right. Sitcoms today very rarely lack at least one homosexual "couple," and they often portray that character is the best, most funny, or the most likable character on the show.… Continue

The Importance of the Resurrection

This is an article that I wrote for a church newsletter around Easter of 2007, but I thought it was worthwhile to post...

Easter has long been one of my favorite celebrations of the year. It serves as a celebration of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus and the fulfillment of God’s promise to His children. The resurrection is the key to the Christian faith as without it, Christianity would be nothing more than another false religion in this lost world. ( I Corinthians 15) But because we serve a… Continue

Hi Jesse, I like your observations. I like tradition as a lot (not all) of it has great doctrinal roots. But, sometimes churches go too far and do things just for the sake of tradition, and that's where my problem lies. I agree that all tradition...

Nick, Interesting topic of discussion and one that I'm still figuring out myself (how much/how little?) Personally, I fall in-line with Tim Keller (Teaching Elder of Redeemer Church NYC). For a local church to define their corporate worship iden...

Nick- I know you know this, but knocking on doors is not THE way to draw in people to Christ. No doubt we see people going from house to house in Acts, but it probably wasn't random knocks on random doors. They were being invited to homes to cont...
