Recommended reading on this topic: Against the Protestant Gnostics by Philip Lee (and yes, it's written by a Protestant)

Hi Rey, there is a fantastic dialogue going on over at Called to Communion that might be worth a read. One article in particular is discussing the distinction between sola and solo scriptura, suggesting that there may be no principled difference....

;) I wasn't going to comment at all (because I've found the other threads thorough enough), but once I saw that the premise of this question was based on a heresy (at least from the perspective of most Christians today and the entire Church befor...

(Though I'd also say that there has been a host of threads on this topic within the last month. If you're interested, you might want to a look back a few pages.)

I'll bite... Heresy: "For Scripture alone is the final deciding factor on all things" Scripture to back up my claim: 1 Timothy 3:15; Matthew 18:15-17 (to start) BUT, thankfully those who claim this tradition of man, this theological novum, while...

Confusion of categories always ends with neither being properly addressed. Substituting service for preaching ultimately neither preaches the gospel nor serves the neighbour. You don't actually preach the gospel of Christ, and you use your neighbo...

Thanks Raq, Of course I believe in speaking and teaching the gospel. Somewhere between vows of silence and street preaching with a megaphone there is probably a fit for some people, I just don't know where it is. I can, as I have, say where it is...

I hear you, Ser. I hear what you and Rey are saying. But I cannot presume to know how Kelly leads his life, nor how his faith effects (both now and in the future) those around him. So let's ask him. Hey Kelly. Would you mind coming over here and ...

Then I'll answer your question with a question. Who said that peace was passive?

Kelly. we have a scripture that tells us, there is no other name, under heaven, given among men, whereby we must be saved. (acts 4:12). What's that name? obvious. Jesus. So when anyone, a bishop, a guru, or a metropolitan or a patron saint says ...

Rey, Two things. First, I was speaking about worrying about my self in the context of the proposition in the original thread. I can't really worry about your theology or Ryan's theology or how orthodox you are, rather it's better for me to concer...

...I'm still not understanding the disagreement with Kelly's quote. Is that not similar to the "Love God and do as you please" Augustine quote? To live in that peace-that-passes-understanding (one that might effect thousands) requires a Holy Spir...

Ryan,
This is the picture I would use if I was handing a Bible to a woman at a clinic.
Peace,

Good to meet you Ryan! You don't live that far from me. Good to see some other folks that believe in Holy Tradition, Apostolic Succession etc. on this web site.

Welcome aboard!!! Just to give you a heads up. Most of the people here are pretty cool. There is a wide variety of Christianity here -- RCC's, Eastern Orthodox, Reformed, Lutherans, Evangelicals, Fundy's, etc. Most are irenic when they disagree.
