Profile Information

Tell us about yourself
I am a teacher/librarian, where I have worked for 23 years. I have been a Sunday School teacher and taught in lay church school for about the same length of time. I have cared for six elderly relatives and currently care for my mother, who is in a nursing home, visiting her three or more times a week.

I began studying the scriptures with my grandmother's help when I was just a young child. My interest in going to school was so that I could learn to read the Scriptures the way my grandmother did. Before I could read the Scripture and comprehend them, I starting reading a Bible Story Book which after I have grown older and learned the process of learning to read, find that it was a miracle to have read it when I did. I recall taking the subject matter which we were studying (and my assigned part) and converting very complex language into my own speech. Then I would present those during the youth meeting.

I had seen much in my youth of things which I wanted no part of religiously; when it came time to make a decision for college work, no one advised me that there were Christian colleges which I could attend. And even if there were the correct information available, I would not have been able to attend financially.

I attended a state regional university where I was a social studies major and a library science minor. I worked through my college years and was chosen for a teaching job in the school where I student taught.

After five years, my family needed my help with the care of elderly relatives. I had resigned my teaching position and hoped to locate a teaching job locally, in a rural area. That was not to be. I worked as a salesperson twice, as a cashier twice, as a bookkeeper twice, while continuing to care for six elderly relatives. During this period of time, I worked in our local church youth program; I also spent one year in a night lay Bible School program. After that year, and along with my previous educational background, I was asked to spend the next two working in the lay bible school program. This was of course, in addition to my regular employment.

When the business climate changed and the Lord had helped me to see my folks graduated to heaven, I went back to work on my masters degree. While working as a graduate assistant, I finished my masters work. A week after graduation, I began work in an elementary library and was blessed to work in a school with my nieces and nephews. That was a little surprise the Lord arranged for me. Nine years were spent there; then the Lord kicked it up a notch and helped me with a job in an urban high school and I remain there.

I have always wondered if there was something specifically that I could do to help people read and study the Scriptures. That has never worked out, but I am pleased to work with some wonderful teenagers, those whom you don't hear about on the news.
How would you describe yourself theologically?
I am a conservative Christian with a strong emphasis on the Scripture. I believe that the Scripture should be the basis upon which everything, which we have studied in theology, history, and archeology should rest. The Bible is the foundation piece for all life.

I have been involved in various groups inlcuding a pentecostal group, a charismatic group, a baptist group and finally I attend a non-denominational group. I feel more comfortable there, where there is more emphasis on Scripture and study.
Who is the greatest theologian in the last 2000 years? (Besides Biblical People!)
Paul, the apostle; Martin Luther, inter.; Jonathan Edwards, nationally.

Just for Fun, Barrett

What Children Believe by Gold City

I heard this song for the first time today on Christian radio. And it just bowled me over.

You see I was one of those children. And I am so thankful.

However, many children can never sing this song as a personal testimony to their faith.

And America, is so far away from the intentions of our Founding Fathers, that in many, many cases this will be a thing of the past.

I am thankful that I grew up when I did; as a testament to that upbringing, I have become the "bible… Continue

THE (SCIENTIFIC) DEATH OF JESUS 08-18-09

THE (SCIENTIFIC) DEATH OF JESUS

At the age of 33, Jesus was beaten and condemned to death penalty.

This was considered the "worst" death. Only the worst criminals could die like Jesus. And Jesus was dealt worst, because not all the criminals condemned to death received nails in their… Continue

A Prayer for our Nation, written by Dr. Billy Graham

Billy Graham's Prayer For Our Nation

'Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to
seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who
call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our
spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and
called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We
have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and
called it… Continue

The Room by Joshua Harris

The Room... by Joshua Harris

{Mr. Harris was a young missionary when he had this dream while in Puerto Rico with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Team in 1995. Like most dreams from God, the details are vivid and worth our consideration.}

In that place between wakefulness and dreams, I found myself in the room.
There were no distinguishing features except for the one wall covered with small index card files.
They were like the ones in libraries that list titles by author or subject in alphabetica… Continue

I don't have my theology confused, I hope. But I could see the elements in it that could be compared with Christ.

Besides in the current time frame, when we have so many anti-hero movies, I want to cry out "Where are the heroes?" Where are the people that we see in the roles of helping those in trouble, making a difference, and challenging the current thinking on various pop culture areas? I think like Superman who had another personna, that of a quiet rather unsensational reporter, that they are out there. They are just people like you and me, who go about our lives, who when the emergency, the opportune moment calls them to do something out of their personna, they respond valiantly. The firemen and police come to mind, and yes ministers and teachers. I cannot say how much I appreciate our military men and women.

I do a Veteran's Day display at my school and survey our student body which is very near Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. I get the forms back from families who have lost their members in the line of duty. Many responders are either in the military or military retirees. They tell you they are not heroes, but those who have sacrificed their lives for our country are. I disagree with that, but I can appreciate where they are coming from.

As we approach the 4th of July, not only does my mind and heart center around those who helped birth our country and the men and women who wrote our Consitution, but also the men and women who have sacrificed their lives to keep this country safe and free. Sometimes I think that the only patriotic fervor I see is around the 4th of July. I know that it is so with many young people. The failure to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing the the National Anthem are just issues of a greater lack of education and appreciation.

Yes, I feel there are heroes, but sadly we don't recognize them. Well, they did not recognize Jesus when he came. Sadly, those groups were looking through the glasses of their own financial deep pockets, or they were looking for the Saviour who would take them from Rome's control. He will come, but he came first to save people from their sins, to draw them back Jehovah. And they could not receive him because of his message.

Just a few thoughts today.
