Very well said, as usual. Thank you.

1. Is this a literal historical account? There is much good and little harm in saying yes. 2. If not, what is it? It requires speculation to go beyond this account as being literal. But, if one wanted to shy away from literalness (for whatever re...

ESV Study Bible Review

In this review we shall look at the ESV Study Bible and consider both the Bible text and some of its features.

Today we shall briefly look at the translation.

The ESV is an essentially literal (el) translation. This means that it seeks to translate the Bible text from the original languages word for word. The English translation seeks to accurately translate each word so as to be faithful to the writings of the original penmen.

As an essentially literal translation the ESV follows the traditi… Continue

The Gift

When the PC was down
It was you I called.
When I found an interesting article
I emailed it to you.
In the times when something good happened
a good deal
a lucky break
the simple pleasures that come our way in life
I called to let you know.
If there was a problem in the family
I talked to you
your head was level
and your heart in the right place.
Now I get the calls about the broken PC.
My tech questions go to an acquaintance
who is across the country
on a totally different coast.
My good fortune… Continue

KJVO Debate

For those of you who are interested in the KJVO Debate (Daniel?), our team blog has really taken off. It seems my post on the LXX hit a nerve. Comments are nearing 60, and there's no sign of relief.
Come on over and weigh in on the discussions.

Book Review: John Calvin: A Pilgrim's Life

John Calvin: A Pilgrim's Life
By Herman J. Selderhuis
ISBN: 978-0-8308-2921-7
First of all, I must say that I generally enjoy books that are published by IVP. This one is among the few exceptions. I did not enjoy it, but I greatly enjoyed it. There are not enough superlatives in my vocabulary to describe the pleasure I took in reading this book.
Selderhuis is certainly a good historian. He is also a good writer. History can be dry and dull. This one is not. The writing is well done. The author h… Continue

Thank you Jason!! Warm words, warmly received! Actually, have been looking forward to your next theology discussion, and was delighted this afternoon to see that you'd posted it. Have wanted to jump in, but so far the questions were a little bit over above me to be able to wade in adequately, so enjoyed what everyone else was saying.

Thank you for posting them, I hope you keep doing this, even though am sure it's hard work.

Grace and peace to you brother
