Does Christianity Oppress Women?

Many people, non-believers and Christians alike, believe that Christianity oppresses women. This is due to a few verses in the bible where the woman is said to submit to her husband, or that she may have no authority over man in the church.

The first thing you have to realize is this: The context of the passage.

When you study scripture, sometimes it does not take away from the meaning if you take out a verse and apply it. But sometimes taking a verse out of context is hazardous to what the bi… Continue

Sin: What is it?

While some have a firm grasp of this concept, it is still vague for many others. I am going to try and describe what "sin" is from the biblical perspective, and how it relates to our lives.

Sin can be defined as "anything that is contrary to the law or will of God." This means, essentially, that sin is "rebellion" against God. Romans 3:23 tells us, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

We must ask ourselves: how did sin get into the world. In the book of Genesis, sin entere… Continue

So, outside of the church, when Priscilla and Aquila took Paul under their wing... that's acceptable. Women can teach outside a building? I thought that WE were the church?

Awesome, I am a third year at NIU. Is he also a good Christian guy? I attend CRU, so tell him to check it out

Unfortunately, no. My son (actually my step-son) is not a believer. Are there some "seeker-friendly" events at CRU that I can "push" him toward?

My oldest son attends NIU. His name is Matthew Biava, and he is in his second year.

My wife and I lived in Sycamore for 15 years, and attended The Evangelical Free Church of Sycamore & DeKalb. It's worth checking out. Hard to "compete" with super-churches like Harvest.

BTW, nobody at the EFC knows any "Jacob Klinstein" - I use that pseudonym to maintain privacy on discussion forums. :)

Do you attend a church in the DeKalb area? If so, which one?
