Angie Cheatham of
Crossway has blessed us with two copies of
Proclaiming A Cross-Centered Theology. What this means is that we have a giveaway on our hands, thanks to Crossway.

In this review we shall look at the ESV Study Bible and consider both the Bible text and some of its features.
Today we shall briefly look at the translation.
The ESV is an essentially literal (el) translation. This means that it seeks to translate the Bible text from the original languages word for word. The English translation seeks to accurately translate each word so as to be faithful to the writings of the original penmen.
As an essentially literal translation the ESV follows the traditi…

When the PC was down
It was you I called.
When I found an interesting article
I emailed it to you.
In the times when something good happened
a good deal
a lucky break
the simple pleasures that come our way in life
I called to let you know.
If there was a problem in the family
I talked to you
your head was level
and your heart in the right place.
Now I get the calls about the broken PC.
My tech questions go to an acquaintance
who is across the country
on a totally different coast.
My good fortune…

John Calvin: A Pilgrim's Life
By Herman J. Selderhuis
ISBN: 978-0-8308-2921-7
First of all, I must say that I generally enjoy books that are published by IVP. This one is among the few exceptions. I did not enjoy it, but I greatly enjoyed it. There are not enough superlatives in my vocabulary to describe the pleasure I took in reading this book.
Selderhuis is certainly a good historian. He is also a good writer. History can be dry and dull. This one is not. The writing is well done. The author h…

New team blog dealing with Fundamentalism.
Fundamentally Changed
Fundamentally Changed has been established for the following reasons:
1. To demonstrate our appreciation for historic fundamentalism.
2. To emphasize that much of today’s fundamentalism is extreme and not historic.
3. To show that we are still fundamentalists (Fundamentally The Same), but not extreme fundamentalists (Fundamentally Changed).
4. To uphold…

What Ever Happened to Frank?
I recently picked up a used copy of
Wild At Heart. It was almost brand new.
When I opened the book I noticed that the jacket had been tucked to mark someone's place about thirty pages into the book. It was obvious that the rest of the book was unread.
Written on the front free end page was this:
"Frank,
May you find some peace and hope in reading this book. My love for you is stronger than the first time I felt love for you. We have wea…

Religion Saves should be a shocker for many people. Subtitled "nine other misconceptions", Religion Saves (henceforth RS) is hard-hitting, classic Driscoll.
One can almost hear him preaching. Driscoll's personality does not ooze through this book. It rushes through it like white water rapids. The book is blunt, to the point, funny, at times course, and very relevant.
Driscoll deals with Calvinism (he is a Calvinist), birth control, humor (he loves it and uses it well), grace (he loves it but s…

As you may have noticed, I have changed my user name.
My name is indeed JasonS.
On the other hand, you all know that.
And on the other hand, I tend to like a degree of anonymity due to certain folks who may want to find me (not the police, FBI, CIA, or anything....my children's biological parents).
fundy- (not a capital "f") relates to the fact that I tend toward historical fundamentalism, but not extreme fundamentalism.
the "gelical" means that I have much in common with modern day Bible-believ…

Is there anything more crucial than the setting of priorities?
Is there any imperative that is stronger?
Setting priorities is not easy work.
Holding to those priorities is even more difficult.
A godly, Christian man should set and hold godly, Christian priorities.
That goes against the flow.
It is contrary to the world’s wisdom.
It will bring some mockery, some hate, some stares of disbelief, and other unpleasantries.
To maintain those priorities in the face of opposition (which will of…

But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must…

Old Testament Theology
Robin Routledge
ISBN: 978-0-8308-2896-8
ot-theo-ivp
Old Testament Theology: A Thematic Approach is a very interesting book. Honestly, I’ve read several books on the Old Testament. Most of them dealt with backgrounds or overviews of the Old Testament. Old Testament theology is not something I’ve spent much time with. This book proved to be both enlightening and disappointing.
First of all, the enlightening aspect. Routledge has spent much time studying the Old Testamen…
